Giardini Naxos

The origins of Giardini Naxos date back to 735 B.C., when a group of colonists disembarked at Capo Schis and founded what is generally considered by ancient historians to have been the first Greek colony in Sicily; it was named Naxos after the Aegean island. Today, you can admire the remains of the ancient city and walk along the ancient streets that dissect the ten hectares of the Archaeological Park. The park also includes the historic Museum of Naxos.
Thanks to its excellent geographical location on the coast of the Ionian Sea, Giardini Naxos has become one of the most beautiful, most highly renowned and most visited tourist resorts in Sicily with plenty of restaurants, fast food shops, boutiques and swimming facilities. It has a wide range of accommodation establishments, many of which also offer activities and entertainment.

Situated on the hills above Giardini Naxos, Taormina is a very popular and fashionable tourist destination with plenty of tourist attractions and a major historical and artistic heritage which includes the ancient Greek Theatre, where an arts festival (Taormina Arte) takes place in the summer with classical and popular music concerts, operas and plays.
In the 19th century, it became a prestigious tourist resort, welcoming high-profile guests such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Nietzsche, Richard Wagner, Oscar Wilde, Tsar Nicolas I, Gabriele D'Annunzio, Gustav Klimt, Sigmund Freud and Edmondo De Amicis.

In September the weather in Sicily is usually warm and sunny and the average daytime temperature is around 25° C. Light clothing is advisable.
Excursions to Etna (up to ~2000m a.s.l.) require suitable footwear as well as warm and windproof clothing.
