2nd CIS Meeting: How to reach .......

2nd CIS Meeting main page

To reach Catania center from the airport see here.

From downtown to Catania Astrophysical Observatory

Catania Observatory is close to downtown but up on a hill. There is a rapid bus (BRT1) connecting downtown to the entrance of the University campus (“Policlinico” bus stop) where the Observatory is located. Walking from the campus entrance to the Observatory is less than 10 minutes (same quote).

If your hotel is not downtown (i.e., it is not in our selected list) we warmly suggest you use a taxi.

This is a circular line, hence from the Observatory to downtown take the bus in the same direction at the Policlinico bus stop.

Click on the map for instruction on the walking path inside the University campus.

From the Catania airport to Catania Astrophysical Observatory

By taxi (strongly suggested the radiotaxi option)

Radio-taxi (+39 095 330966). Call radiotaxi when ready to leave the baggage claim area.  The fare to Catania Astrophysical Observatory, 24 Euro, is communicated at the moment of your call. The taxi picks you up in few minutes at the level of departure (1st floor). Take the escalator on your left after leaving the baggage claim area, then exit on the right and wait for your taxi.

Taxi in the queue at arrival level. You pay according to the taximeter. For Catania Observatory it should be between 35-55 euro, depending on the traffic at the different time of the day.

By public transportation

Follow the indication to reach Catania center with the Alibus (457). Exit the 457 bus at the first stop in via Etnea (this is well after the Central Station) and look for BRT-1 bus stop going in direction of “Due Obelischi”.

BRT buses (light green and orange) look different than other AMT buses (orange).

Tickets (1 Euro/each) are sold at newsstands or tobacconists. In piazza Stesicoro (see the bottom of the map) there is an AMT ticket counter.
