The Astrophysical Observatory of Catania

The Astrophysical Observatory of Catania, research structure of the INAF (Ministry of Education, University and Research) and the section of Astrophysics of the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Catania continue the traditional activity of study and research in the field of mathematical, physical and natural sciences that dates back to the foundation of the University of Catania (1434). Particular attention is dedicated to the field of education and outreach with a rich program of school and public visits throughout the year. The privileged geographical position of Catania, a sunny city in the south of Italy at the foot of Mount Etna (3340 m. a.s.l.), the largest active volcano in Europe, has made possible almost 100 years of uninterrupted observation of solar activity, which continues until today. Further research programs in other fields, from stellar physics to cosmology, are also actively conducted.
