The MAJIS (Moon And Jupiter Imaging Spectrometer) instrument is an imaging spectrometer operating in the visible and near infrared on board the JUICE (Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer) mission.
The probe launched on 14 April 2023 will reach the Jovian system in 2031. Among the mission’s objectives is the study of the satellites Ganymede, Europa and Callisto and in particular the chemical composition and physical properties of their surface.
As part of the project, the group from the Laboratory for Experimental Astrophysics of the Catania Astrophysical Observatory has the task of carrying out experiments on analogues of the surfaces of the Jovian satellites.
