Attività di ricerca

– Extrasolar planets:

    • star-planet tidal and magnetic interactions;
    • impact of stellar magnetic activity on the detection and characterization of extrasolar planets through the radial velocity and transit methods;
    • rotation of planet-hosting stars;
    • magnetic activity in planet-hosting stars.

– Solar-stellar connection:

    • the Sun as a star in photometry, spectroscopic and radial velocity time series.

– Late-type stars:

    • stellar rotation and magnetic activity;
    • analysis of light curves from space-borne telescopes;
    • methods of spot modeling based on photometric timeseries inversion;
    • close binary systems: models of their orbital period modulations;
    • close binary systems: magnetic activity and rotation;
    • hydromagnetic dynamos.
Curriculum vitae

Antonino Francesco Lanza graduated from the University of Catania in 1989 and earned his PhD from the University of Catania in 1993. He is an astronomer of the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics and a member of the International Astronomical Union and of the European Astronomical Society. His current main field of study is the interaction between extrasolar planets and their host stars. He is also interested in the Sun as a star and in physical processes related to the rotation and magnetic fields in late-type stars both single and in close binary systems. He is one of the founders of the GAPS (Global Architecture of Planetary Systems) collaboration aimed at discovering new planetary systems and investigating their properties and evolution. He collaborated to the space mission CoRoT (as a Guest Investigator) and is involved in Gaia (as a member of the CU7 – Variability processing). He is presently working for the science management of PLATO, a recently approved ESA mission to discover exoplanets and study their evolution with the most advanced methods of Astrophysics.
